Okay blog post number 1!

Right now I am on day two of my Chicago visit. Got in to O’Hare Airport in Chicago at around 4.30pm after close to 20 hours in the air.  I was greeted by my one of my favourite people, Hannah June. She was waiting for me with a very impressive sign in tow saying “welcome back Lose”. A nice reminder of my old nick name here! We proceeded to go back to her car with all of my stuff and my first reminder of how wacky this place is, I proceed to get into the passenger seat, only to discover the drivers seat there instead. We then left the airport and began driving on the right side of the road…I don’t think I will ever get used to that! After about an hours drive, and seeing all the different fast food chains I had forgotten, we arrived at the June’s Place and I was slammed with the biggest sense of de ja vu. After being away for so long, my first trip almost seemed like a dream, so being back has been incredibly surreal. After hugs all round, I was taken inside the house where I have so many memories. It was cool to see all the things that had changed, and all that had stayed the same. For dinner we had chinese food, and I got a fortune cookie that said “All of your present plans will be sucessful”. I like the sound of that!

Amanda arrived that night after dinner and after more hugs  and we all proceeded to go out for drinks to a local watering hole called “Skooters”. A very hip place for all the young locals to go, I’m told. It was there that I met her new boyfriend Patrick and his friend Kevin. He was a really nice guy and invited us out the next day to go on his three jet skis……yep. His friend Kevin also had his own boat which we took out as well……yep. It was a great time and we stopped for Bloody Marys. I decided to try one as I haven’t had one before…… yeah, not a fan. Lol. It was a weird Bloody Mary and instead of celery in it, there was a giant green bell pepper, olives and a huge pickle. The pickle tasted good, but the rest kinda tasted like liquid salsa. Weird.

After that, Hannah and I went shopping for her dad’s birthday dinner that night. We got what they call brats. But they just mean bratwurst sausages. Very american sort of stuff, we had them as hot dogs with “ketchup” (tomato sauce), mustard and sweet pickle. Pretty good, but was suffering afterwards. Because most of you know me and my sensitive stomach. American food takes a while to get used to. We had also had salad (thank god) and homemade mashed potatoes, in which Amanda was very proud of, as was only her second time making them. They have only ever had them from a box….yeah. They all found my repulsion very humorous. Lol.

So that brings me too right now, with my cup of tea in which I had to make from the coffee machine because they don’t own a kettle….yep. I am going to make sure that I keep writing this blog as it is kind of fun to write and reminds me that what I am doing is pretty damn awesome, even though I might get a bit homesick soon. I am already missing my cats…..and my parents a bit as well. ;D

But Facebook makes the degrees of separation a lot smaller. It makes it a lot easier to be so far away. So while I am going to keep doing this blog, you guys all better keep me updated as well!!

Next post to come real soon!!!
